Wexford Health delivers comprehensive preventive, restorative, and emergency dental care through licensed dentists, oral surgeons, and hygienists — onsite where available — recognizing that oral health is integral to overall wellness.

We provide routine dental care — including examinations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, x-rays, fillings, and simple extractions — to relieve pain, treat injury, eliminate infection and disease, and restore dental function.

Patients submit requests for non-emergent oral care through the facility's routine sick call procedure. These requests are triaged daily, with urgent needs such as abscesses or significant tooth pain prioritized for treatment, onsite or offsite as necessary. All other routine services, including fillings and extractions, are scheduled according to established clinical priorities. Extractions are performed in accordance with community standards of care and American Dental Association clinical guidelines.

A dentist or qualified staff member is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — onsite or on call — to respond to dental emergencies, with response occurring within 24 hours of the problem being identified.

Any patient experiencing a dental emergency receives an examination no later than the next working day, sooner if directed by the examining physician. In the interim, medical staff manage pain, swelling, bleeding, infection, or trauma according to established protocols, coordinating with the on-call medical provider as needed.

We arrange medically necessary specialty dental services, such as oral and maxillofacial surgery, when clinically indicated and prescribed by the attending dentist. While cosmetic or elective procedures (crowns, bridges, orthodontics, etc.) are not routinely initiated, our dentists retain discretion — with medical authority approval — to provide these services when necessary, or to continue orthodontic treatment already underway prior to incarceration.

All necessary dental laboratory services are included in our program at no additional cost. We also provide dental prosthetics, such as partial plates and dentures, when the dentist and site physician determine that a patient's health would be adversely affected without one. Prosthetics are provided based on clinical priority as determined by the treating dentist.
